Autumn photography

When I was riding my bike this past summer I would think to myself what a great shot this will be in the fall. I find myself retracing my bike routs from the summer. Going through alleys, neighbourhoods and parks to see what the season will bring. The sun is different, creating shadows that I never saw before. Creating new colors and angles of light that give that little extra to your images.

I find myself riding in more places looking at angles that I didn't see before. More stops and turns. I am getting a sign for my bike that reads "This bike makes sudden stops"

I know why I ride my bike instead of driving.

Last Saturday the sun and sky was just fantastic, thinking I would just jump in my car and drive around downtown Pittsburgh for a few I though easy shots, mistake. I could not get anywhere. Road closed here, can't park there. Oh forgot bridge closed for construction. One way streets. I found myself laughing in my car. What else could I do? I took a few shots just for the record and then found myself on my way home.

This time on my bike.

I love to ride my bike especially during the early morning and late afternoon. Ok pretty much the whole day. But those times are magical for photography. Mix in a little inclement weather and I am good to go. My bike gets me into places where a car just isn't practical. It also presents a different perspective of the landscape, angles and lighting all the elements critical to a good image. My choice of carry cameras, Nikon D70 or when available the canon G9. Both have been able to take the beating of riding the Pittsburgh streets. Have a favorite camera, let me know.

I though about having a Pittsburgh ride. You've heard of city walks? It's where a photographer gets a group of people together and walks through a particular part of a city. He does some instruction on composition and lighting, camera settings, etc. My ride would have a twist. Not only would you get some great shots but the riding would be great also. Wow what a deal. All this can be yours for one low price.
